The city of Barrie recently introduced a new numbering bylaw for municipal addresses that states that signs and addresses must be visible during the day and evening. While it stops short of saying that the sign must be illuminated like the WayFinder, we feel that our sign is the solution to bylaw compliance. The maximum fine for non-compliance is 5,000.

The technology and how it keeps energy usage low.
LEDs (light emitting diodes) are a light source that fit easily into an electronic circuit. But unlike ordinary incandescent bulbs, they don't have a filament that will burn out, and they don't get hot. They are illuminated by the movement of electrons in a semiconductor material.
The main advantage is efficiency. In conventional incandescent bulbs, the light-production process involves generating a lot of heat; 90% goes to heat (the filament must be warmed). This is completely wasted energy, because a large  portion of the available electricity does not go towards producing visible light. In an LED, most of the electrical power is going directly to generating light, and this cuts down on electricity demands.
